"The greatest persecution of the Church does not come from external enemies, but is born of sin within the church"-Pope Benedict xvi

Four things on which the liberal dissenters and I agree.

  • "The church must realise that 90% of Catholics ignore the teachings on Birth Control"
I agree. The vast majority of these Catholics have never heard what the church teaches-not from the pulpit, not in catechesis, not in RCIA, and not in Marriage preparation. How can you follow a path you do not know exists? You can only go along with the world. That is the only voice you are hearing.
Where the dissenters and I part ways,is that I believe the truth needs to be heard, rather than swept under the carpet, or dispensed with altogether.

  • "Young people don't want to go to Mass anymore, they find the Mass boring"
Amen. But since we have changed the Mass from a re-presentation of the sacrifice of Christ, to a "special meal", a sharing,caring,hug-fest. And no amount of extra-loud strumming can drown out the inane "I love you,you love me,we're all one big family" excuse for a hymn. Young people are not foolish. They might go looking for God and for truth, but they will get Doris and Maria trying to hold their hands. Might as well go to McDonald's with your mates for your "special Meal" and your fellowship.

  • "There's no demand for the Latin Mass"

Well yes. If you only make Latin Mass available 300 miles away at 8pm on the third Thursday of the month, and frequently cancel it at the last minute, so the justice and peace ladies can drink tea, there is going to be no demand for it.Particularly among families with young children who need sleep and routine.

  • "Catholic schools are excellent, and do a lot of good in society"
Firstly, define excellent. Excellent, as in offer no resistance to the world? Excellent is in good GCSE results? (how are 5 a*s going to win you a place in heaven?) Excellent as in very popular with MP's children, particularly those MPs who think exterminating unborn babies is a jolly good show. And if  good  means never rocking the boat and going along with whatever worldly ideology the wind blows in,then, in the main,Catholic schools are.
