St Lucy's day is a tradition we have now introduced into our Advent preparations.
The eldest daughter wakes the family up and serves the family coffee and cakes. St Lucy would sneak into the catacombs to feed the Christians.
St Lucy is often depicted with her eyes on a plate, as it is thought her eyes were put out as a punishment. Other versions of the story suggest she put her own eyes out, and sent them to a suitor who admired her eyes.
